CURTAINS

CURTAINS

The moment you left
Took a bow on the center stage.
Try reading in between the lines
And you’ll realize
How I am
Both the love and the loss
The lover and the story.

It’s been thirty days
And I have been playing
This over and over again
To an audience
That shouldn’t care
For a story so generic
It doesn’t feel like art anymore

And yet they laugh and cry with me
The lack of closure so apparent
That it moves them
And not just in their seats

Our goodbye
Wasn’t a conversation
Just a pair of footsteps leaving
And the other wailing at the door
Like a story bereft of an end.

You sit still in a corner
Close to the aisle
Watching so keenly
the drama unfold
Over and again
Like regret does to your mind.
Perhaps that’s why
You keep waiting
For the curtains to fall.
