Winter Romance

Winter Romance

(Dinner Table Conversation)

I entwine my fingers with yours
More out of comfort
Less out of temptation
Despite the sensual tension arising between us
Triggered by a toe curling
Winter romance
We’d indulged in once
A few years ago.
We’re seated across
In a plush rooftop restaurant
Talking about
Nippy weathers
And impulsive escapades
That never lasted
Over a glass of red wine
Before sparks fly
And winters feel warm again.
We go through a momentary lapse
Before raising a toast to
Setting boundaries
And staying sober in love
For we’re done with the repercussions
Of choosing otherwise.
We depart like the way we did then
With sordid goodbyes
And embers of afterglow.
